Growing tomatoes in California is a tricky process. There are a lot of different varieties of tomatoes throughout the world. The most common we are familiar with are Cherry and Beefsteak tomatoes. Not only are there a large list of varieties but also a large list of diseases or worms that will attack the tomatoes and either destroy the plant or the fruit of the plant, being the tomato. There are different conditions that will cause inadequate pollination. Every tomato flower has male and female parts that must be pollinated to produce a lush and plump, juicy tomato.
While you are combating the bugs of the tomato plant there is also the soil content that could be detrimental to the tomato plant. Soil must be checked for calcium, carbohydrates, iron, zinc, potassium, sandy soil, power type soil, too wet or too dry. But don’t let any of this discourage you in planting and growing your own garden and reaping a beautiful, delicious, bright red tomato.
Many websites have all the varieties, diseases, or varmints that will attack your tomato and give you advice on how to combat these elements so you will develop a good crop to serve on your dining room table. They will teach you how to cultivate the land, help with the pollination, planting, insecticides to use and the fertilizer that will be best for your tomato plants. Of course, you can always do what every other do it yourselfer does and till the land, plant some tomato plants, give them some tomato plant food, water occasionally, and hope for the best.
