Ripe Tomatoes

Tomatoes come in all different sizes and colors. The best way to tell when a tomato is ripe is to feel it. If it is too soft then it is too ripe. A ripe tomato skin will feel soft but still firm. A red tomato when it gets ripe will change to a dark red and will be firm but soft to the touch. A green tomato will turn yellowish when ripe. If a tomato gets too ripe then the skin will be very soft and if you are not careful your finger could go through the tomato's skin.

A cherry tomato will turn a reddish orange color as it ripens. If a cherry tomato gets too ripe it will look like a prune. The grape tomato will turn a light red. If grape tomatoes gets too ripe they will look like raisins. Tomatoes are good to eat but if they are not ripe they will taste nasty. If the tomato is too ripe, it will be too hard to slice. Some tomatoes will turn different colors when they ripen.

A tomato needs to have a lot of sun to get ripe. So when planting a tomato plant you will need to plant it in the direct sunlight. Another way to tell if a tomato is ripe is by the smell. A tomato has a unique smell which is hard to explain, like a cantaloupe has a unique smell when it is ripe and is ready to be picked off the vine. A tomato will be ready to be picked three to four months after you plant them.
