Eat More Tomatoes

The benefits of eating tomatoes are abundant. Tomatoes contain lycopene, which has antioxidants and cancer preventing properties. The body does not produce lycopene, so you can only get its benefits by eating foods with lycopene. The lycopene in tomatoes also helps with the prevention of heart disease, heart attacks, strokes and cardiovascular disease. It also helps older people stay active longer. Tomatoes also have Vitamin C, A, E, K, B1, B2, B5 and B6.

Eating tomatoes cut the risk of having prostate, colorectal, breast, eudiometrical, stomach, lung and pancreatic cancers.

There are many types and colors of tomatoes. There are red, yellow, green, orange, purple or brown. Tomatoes are a fruit instead of a vegetable. Raw, they have acidic and bitter qualities, while cooking makes warm, rich and sweet. Tomatoes are best when in season, from July to September.

Tomatoes taste the best when eaten with avocados, olive oil or nuts (fatty foods). Tomatoes and broccoli together are very successful against prostate cancer. Cooked tomatoes are better than non-cooked tomatoes, but broccoli is better raw, steamed or sautéd for no more than five minutes.

Tomatoes are a good source of fiber, which lowers cholesterol and keeps blood sugar from going to high. It also contains chromium, which helps diabetic patients keep blood sugar levels under control.

Raw tomatoes contain vitamin K, which activates osteocalicin, and is important for maintaining bone health.

The riboflavin in tomatoes help in reducing the frequency of migraine attacks. Tomato juice reduces blood clotting and is a natural anti-inflammatory. Organic ketchup has three times the cancer fighting carotenoid than non-organic brands.
