What Soil Tomatoes Like Best

Tomatoes are one of the most popular plants that people like to grow in their gardens. When planting tomatoes, there are a few tips to keep in mind to assure that they grow to their highest potential, so that you will be enjoying great healthy tomatoes all season long. The first step is to make sure that you are planting them in good healthy soil.

Your first step is to make sure that you are picking a place in your garden that will get plenty of sun throughout the day. Tomatoes grow well with at least six to eight hours of sun per day. This allows the soil to be well arrogated. Tomatoes do not grow well in soggy soil, so having plenty of sun will keep the soil fairly dry and prevent the sogginess that tomatoes do not like. A few days before you plant your tomatoes you will want to work the top eight to ten inches of soil. This means that you will need to loosen all of the soil and remove any clumps of soil and trash that may be in the soil. Working the soil and loosening it will allow for the roots of the tomatoes to grow easily with very little resistance from the soil. When you are finished working the soil you should add an organic fertilizer and work it into the first four to six inches of soil to add nutrients to the soil and help your tomatoes grow.

If you follow these few tips when preparing to plant tomatoes, your tomatoes will have a great start and be ready to grow. This will give them a very good start and help you care for them for the rest of the season.
